The Holy Spirit as True God
We believe the Holy Spirit is the uncreated third person of the Trinity. His name is used in equality with the Father and the Son (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14). Christian-based cults do not accept the Trinity.*
*Note: Christian-based cults
The cults deny the Holy Spirit is one with the Father and the Son.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses write, “The holy spirit is God’s power in action, his active force… projecting his energy to any place to accomplish his will.” Note the use of small caps.
Iglesia Ni Cristo preaches that the Holy Spirit is one of the spirits being sent by God.
Mormonism teaches that the Holy Spirit, like Jesus, is one of three separate beings that work together as the Godhead.
He is the source of all physical (Genesis 1:2) and spiritual life (John 3:5). He inspired the writers of Scripture (Acts 1:16; 2 Timothy 3:16; 1 Peter 1:21). He is the promised Comforter and Advocate (John 14:16-17).
The Holy Spirit after the ascension of Jesus
The ascension was necessary for the coming of the Holy Spirit (John 16:7). Before Jesus’ incarnation, God as Father was present in general over the people. God as Jesus was present locally among the people for 33 years. Since Christ’s ascension, God as Holy Spirit is present supernaturally and universally among all the earth's people until the return of Christ.
Today, the primary work of the Holy Spirit is to testify of the work of Jesus Christ to all humanity (John 15:26, 16:13). He speaks to all people of all times, races, languages and cultures about their sin and need for Christ (John 16:8).
The Spirit also speaks to hearts through the Word of God (2 Corinthians 3:6),
…interprets the heart feelings of our prayers to the Father (Romans 8:26),
…interprets the mind of God to us (1 Corinthians 2:11),
…tells us what to say when we are persecuted (Luke 12:11-12),
…affirms our salvation to the Father (Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:30),
…helps us live righteous lives (Galatians 5:22-23).
