About us

seafarer chaplain is an online chaplain ministry of Port of Hope Ministries, a ministry to international seafarers. Short articles help you understand life problems and personal faith. You can contact us and ask about a topic topic or ask questions.

Chaplains are not therapists or theologians. No fancy titles here. We just have lots of experience and like to walk with people through their situations and questions.

I'm Phil DuFrene. I've been involved in Christian ministry for 40 years...from Indonesia to northern Canada to the Caribbean and South America, Europe and India. I've worked in the military, law enforcement, a factory, aviation and Christian ministry, and am a writer. I've been involved in ship visitation since 1983.

I live near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. My family is four kids and six grand kids. My wife passed in 2018, but she is still very much part of our family.

My hobbies are woodcraft and making pens. In fact, I've been using woodworking tools as long as I can remember. My very first life recollection was when I disobeyed me dad and played with a wood chisel. I have a big scar to prove it.

Contact me and let's have a chat.
